Fire on the Marmara

Direction: David Segarra
Venezuela 2011 | 69 min | documentary
Israel attacked an aid fleet at sea heading to Gaza in May 2010. In a seize of less than an hour, nine people were killed and 53 wounded. The film digs into the experiences of the activists and journalists on board before, during and after the attack. They were there for both political ambitions, aiming to break the blockade of Gaza, and purely for the sake of humanity. The latter was surely sequestered at sea, but the film also hints that part of it made it ashore. The events gave rise to a new kind of unity, the power of which caught even the activists by surprise.
